First-Generation Support
A first-generation college student is a student who grew up in an environment where their parent(s) or guardian(s) did not have a Bachelor’s degree.
Being a first-generation college student is more than coming from a background where one’s parents or guardians did not graduate from college. It is about venturing into the unknown world of graduate and 职业al school to actualize one’s potential and contribute to one’s family, 社区, 职业, 和社会.
As part of Converse’s mission to educate and train a diverse student body, we aim to foster a campus environment in which the academic promise of our first-generation students and the collective vision for equal educational opportunity regardless of socioeconomic class can be realized. We will support our first-gen students academically and socially, from advising and registration to housing selection and 职业al opportunities.
First-Generation Student Program
The First-Generation Student Program is a first-year success program for first-generation students at Converse. A first-generation student is someone who will be the first in their family to graduate from a four-year institution and has a desire to engage within the college 社区. Throughout the year, First-Generation College Students have socials and learning opportunities led by past first-gen students. These events and connections to resources will make your first year a memorable one!
First-Generation Orientation
If you are planning to participate in the First-Generation Student Program, you are highly encouraged to attend the First-Generation Orientation. This is a pre-orientation that takes place one day before first-year orientation. It is a one-day orientation where students and families are able to attend helpful sessions on how to be successful at Converse. It is a great time to get connected with the staff and learn about all the available resources.
